This version fixes a minor lag issue that was appearing when text was entered to when it actually appeared in the chat box. This version also re-introduces the conversation logger (it’s on by default) as well as a config file to save your options (including your nickname now). There’s also some very few basic colors to give it more of an appearance of an actual IM program.

So please check it out and enjoy. As always, if you find any bugs or errors please let me know about them and I will try to fix them for the next version.

I know there’s a bunch of people out there who have taken interest in my C# Chatterbot, known as Kon. And I know that not everyone is able to hop on IRC and go chat with him. Watching it post on twitter is interesting at first but sometimes you wish you could just interact with it. Well, today I have the solution for you!

I’ve written an offline version of the bot appropriately named Kon Offline. This is the first release of the bot. It is currently using Kon version 1.4.3 to drive it, so it’s up to date.

There are a few things you might want to know about this version:

The bot currently has three different modes that you can toggle. They are:

* Chat Only
* Learn Only
* Chat While Learning

* Chat Only
This mode is simply chatting, nothing else. You can send text and Kon will try to create dialog based on what you say to it.

* Learn Only
This mode is to teach the bot something new. When you talk to it, it will record everything you say into its brain. Kon will never respond to you in this mode.

* Chat While Learning
A combination of the two above. The bot will take what you say to it and store it in its brain, but it will also try to respond to the line as well.

And there’s multiple brain controls (such as sorting, erasing, and feeding a text file to its brain). There are some things that this version does NOT do compared to the online version:

* Cannot connect online in any way (twitter, IRC, etc)
* Does not generate log files (yet)
* Cannot save your chat nickname (yet)

Other than that, it’s pretty much the same. Please chat with him and teach him a lot of interesting things. Then go to the forum topic and post your funniest conversations and/or your brain files. Who knows? I might end up using your brain file as the default in a future version.

So what’s in question? Well, the first line in question is on page 14. One group translated the first part of Gin’s speech as “Just how many decades did it take me to hear that single sentence?” Another group made it sound more like Aizen explicitly told Gin his secret, rather than Gin overhearing it on his own.

This is the original line in Japanese: その一言を聞き出すのに何十年かかった事やら

I would translate it as “How many decades did it take to get that one statement out of you?” To me, it makes it sound like Aizen told Gin the secret explicitly rather than Gin passively overhearing it somewhere.

The second part is on page 19. The very last two bubbles on the page. Was it Gin’s ambition to see Aizen with a hole in his chest? Or, as silly as it may seem, was it Aizen’s?

Here’s the line: 胸に孔があいて死ぬんや本望ですやろ

I would probably translate that as “dying with a hole in your chest has been your companion’s long cherished ambition.” I know that reads EXTREMELY literally, and thus kind of awkward. It could probably be made easier to read (“Dying with a hole in your chest has been my long cherished ambition” or even something more like “It’s been my dream to see you die with a hole in your chest”) but the message is clear: it’s Gin that wants Aizen to die like that; either ironically or literally.

Of course I could be wrong on some of these. I am, as I always say, a beginner. We’ll have to wait for the more accurate Ju-Ni translations to see for sure.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I’m reworking the videos section of my site a little bit starting with the addition of the fireworks shows from both 2009 and 2010.

* I fixed a very minor mistake in which the LB Brain wasn’t actually searching the entire sentence for the key word like it was supposed to.

* I made it so Kon can now search for two key words to create his response with. For example, if you type Kon: Count Dracula, it will try to find both “Count” and “Dracula” in his brain together to create a response. This is not going to work as good as it sounds though. Because if the words “count” and “dracula” are not very close to each other, i.e. on the same line, in the brain it will fail. But for two words that actually belong together and are generally next to each other, it will help a little bit.

And with that said.. that’s it for now. Next version, whenever I get around to it, I need to try and clean up the code a bit as it’s getting way out of hand and is pretty sloppy.
