What games did you feel had the best music? What games had the most memorable music? Which games had the worst sound tracks you've ever heard before in your life? Also feel free to discuss remixes (OC remixes or other).

I'll start off by saying that the Zelda and SMB themes are probably the most recognizable themes in the world. Zelda also has some great music (village theme, some dungeons, etc). Friday the 13th, for NES, had a very catchy tune although it quickly gets annoying. And of course, let's not forget all of the songs in the Final Fantasy series. If I had to guess, I'd say FF6 had some of the best game music, ever. Some of those themes are just plain awesome.

The Castlevania, Golden Sun, Valkyrie Profile and Metroid games has some great music. Chrono Trigger is another game with some nice music as well.

i've always had a thing for the sonic the hedgehog series on the Sega. especially the 2nd game. and some of the tracks from super mario kart on the snes are pretty good.

Golden Sun, Valkyrie Profile

The artist for those is Motoi Sakuraba. And yes, his work is awesome.

Some Mega Man games have pretty neat music too. And Illusion of Time Gaia.

Yeah, I know. I played Golden Sun first and thought the music style was familiar when I was playing Valkyrie Profile.

And yeah, most of the Mega Man games do have some nice music too. I like the remixed versions on the Mega Man Anniversary Collection.

Updating this to say Gitaroo-Man has some of the best music. Ever. And they'll get stuck in your head for weeks and you won't care because they're so good.

Seriously, what other game can you lose 500 times hearing the same 60 seconds of a song and STILL want to voluntarily listen to the full song?

So I now have nearly 3000 Final Fantasy songs to listen to. Didn't know there were that many? Yeah, me either.

Aside from the Final Fantasy XI soundtracks, I'd say so far my favorite has to be The Black Mages albums. Their remixes are so nice. Another album I heard recently out of this set was the Final Fantasy IV - Celtic Moon album. Some nice remixes in that as well if you're a fan of Final Fantasy IV music.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much FF music. :psyboom:

How, HOW did I not see this thread in the two YEARS for which it has existed?! Oh well, here goes my two cents on the best game OSTs ever (and a few tracks and remixes too)...

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, MGS, Yoshi's Island, Mario Kart and 64 (sadly, later installments of the series had quite dull soundtracks), Megaman & Bass, MMX 4 and 5, Wonder Boy 3 (yes I can dig up obscure stuff!), Devil Survivor to stay away from the clichés.

Really, that IS a good question.... lol

I haven't played Wonder Boy in ages. I forgot that it does have some nice music.
