What has started as a simple Lang-8 blog entry to help practice my Japanese has almost turned into a personal challenge: just how many languages can I get this short entry translated into? Thanks to denzians of #Kyoto I’m off to a good start.
This is the original English entry I composed to be translated. Keep in mind I trimmed down the orignial entry I wrote a long time ago about my experience on this ride to make it easier for me to translate.
Have you ever been sent upwards really high and really fast? My friend Fatima and I rode “The Slingshot.”
We were strapped in. While they secured us, we made jokes with the operators. Suddenly, in two seconds we were sent up towards the sky at 100mph. At the top the ride spun.
It was fun but a little scary too.
Next is my Japanese translation (with the corrections given to me on Lang-8). It should be mostly correct now.

Ben je ooit heel snel, heel hoog, omhoog geschoten?
Ik en mijn vriend Fatima gingen in “The Slingshot” (De Katapult).
We werden in de stoelen vastgezet en terwijl het personeel bezig was maakten we wat grappen. Plotseling waren we, met 100 mijl per uur (~160 km/h), binnen twee seconden de lucht in geschoten. Eenmaal boven draaide de bal waar we in zaten.
Het was leuk, maar ook een beetje eng.

Estilingue
Você já foi lançado para cima, para bem alto e muito rápido? Minha amiga Fatima e eu andamos de “Estilingue”. Em dois segundos fomos lançados em direção ao céu a 100mph (161km/h). Foi divertido mas um pouco assustador.
Apertamos os cintos e então fizemos piadas com os operadores enquanto eles estavam nos acomodando. Eles nem tiveram tempo de responder, pois o brinquedo logo nos tirou do chão. No topo, a bola girou algumas vezes. Mais ou menos depois do terceiro giro eu comecei a ficar tonto, mas não foi tão ruim. Ele meio que flutuou no topo por um instante antes de descer.
